Virgin Voyages Review
Better late than never for this review! In December my boyfriend (Jake) and I got to experience the brand new Virgin Voyages cruise ship.
Virgin Voyages is part of the Virgin brand created by Richard Branson. Originally suppose to launch in March 2020 but due to COVID did not launch until summer of 2021. The brand focuses on being all inclusive as they say, “The last thing you need on your vacation is a surprise receipt and pages worth of fine print.” This is also the first 18+ cruise line which is always a huge draw for many adults! We sailed on Scarlet Lady on the Dominican Daze itinerary in a Sea Terrace cabin. Our ship was only at 50% capacity and felt VERY empty. The ship’s design is beautiful and the most gorgeous ship I’ve ever been on.
Virgin wants you to use their app for almost everything. Through the app we booked all our dinner reservations ahead of time as well as our excursions. However during the cruise my app would not work and we had to reply on Jake’s app for everything, that was quite frustrating.
The restaurants on board are incredible with Michelin-starred chefs creating onboard dining experiences. The ship has more than 20+ eateries that bring fresh ingredients and made to order cooking together. Our favorites are The Wake (for dinner & brunch), Gunbae, The Test Kitchen, and The Pizza Place.
For excursions we chose a rum/chocolate/botanical garden tour in Puerto Plata and snorkeling/swimming with sharks in Bimini. In Puerto Plata our tour was very rushed, we were only at the distillery for 35 minutes, and even less at the chocolate factory. The Dominican Republic excursions have some growing pains to sort out before feeling equipped to handle cruise ships. Bimini on the other hand was SO MUCH FUN! Our guides were all locals that absolutely love life and their jobs. We went snorkeling around a ship wreck which was so cool then visited another site to swim with sharks.
After our excursion we went to the Virgin Voyages Beach Club at Bimini. It features a few different restaurants, 2 pools with tons of floating animals to lay in and a large beach with tons of beach chairs. We love Bimini and the beach club so much we wish we could have had 2-3 days there!
I really enjoyed our time on the Scarlet Lady and would recommend it to any clients. Just maybe not the Dominican Republic itinerary. I’d also suggest clients book Rockstar Suites as they come with access to Richard’s Rooftop, daily bar tab, Daily spa access, private transfer, bottomless in-room bar, premium wifi, and more!
